The simple overtone flute, also known as koncovka in Slovakia and played mostly by shepherds, can be traced back to the early medieval period and beyond. It is prized for its ability to be played with one hand while drumming with the other, and it was most likely part of the first one-man band. Because of its length, many notes can easily be achieved by simply changing the pressure of your breath and moving one finger or your hand on and off the open end of the pipe. Tuned to the key of D, it is great for drum circles as it can be very loud.
